The Urn Stand was the first major project that I undertook at Rycotewood, and was incredibly daunting, we were given a design brief with limitations on the dimensions and shape, but we were allowed to choose our own design

I decided on a plain and simple design with a traditional marquetry shell in the centre of the veneer, the green surround although it looks bright to us, was quite ordinary then. The legs were strung with ebony and tapered, the whole stand was then french polished and waxed. This was a very steep learning curve, but enormously satisfying at the end.
