I bought this box for £50, thinking that it would be a challenge, it was certainly that. The good news was that almost all of the brass was inside the box, the problem was that this just took so much longer to straighten out polish and stick than I thought, to add to that there were several pieces of the veneer bits between the brass swirls that were missing. I had to make my own brass stringing all this before I could get onto cutting the patches to repair the damaged veneer on the left hand side and back of the box.
The box and it's contents as it was when I bought it
The inside of the box showed signs of having been forced open and the mechanism for the secret drawers also appeared to have been forced. Three of the dividers were missing, all three of the drawer handles were also missing, both of the writing flaps, and the catches were missing as was the concealing board for the secret mechanism, the pen holder and quill slope. There was also some damaged veneer inside the box
